Virgile Simon Bertrand is a French photographer who has been based in Asia since the late 1990s. Bertrand studied Applied Arts at Ecole Boulle, Graphic Design at Ecole Duperr and Photography at the Ecole Nationale de la Photographie. Bertrand's interest in the relationship between the individual, space and scale permeates both his ne art photography and his commercial work and began with his rst major project for the Opera National de Paris photographing some of the most celebrated choreographers and principal dancers of the time. Bertrand has held solo exhibitions of his work in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Paris. In 2004 Bertrand received the Foreign Correspondents' Club Hong Kong Photograph of the Year Award for his portrait of Cardinal Zen. More recently his portrait of Beijing artist Yin Xiu Zhen has been selected for the prestigious Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize Exhibition at The National Portrait Gallery, London.
